We need strengthen economic opportunity for American families

Young people and families deserve a better chance to achieve the American Dream. I will invest more in public education, and make college more affordable by increasing Pell grants.

Today’s system is stacked against the working people of this country. Too many American families play by the rules; they try to get a head by going to school, often at great cost; they work hard all week, and yet barely make ends meet. I will work for a fair tax structure that removes excessive loopholes and tax cuts for wealthy citizens and corporations. I will increase the minimum wage, as we did three times when I was governor. I favor expanding health care to all Americans. I will invest more in public education, and make college more affordable by increasing Pell grants and reducing interest on college loans.  And I believe in real immigration reform- I was an original co-sponsor of the bipartisan McCain-Kennedy bill, the original DREAM Act.
