Rose McGowan, la actriz que se enfrenta a los poderosos de Hollywood

En 30 años, Harvey Weinstein abusó de una cantidad no especificada de mujeres en donde nos encontramos a nombres como Lea Seydoux, Emma de Caunes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Asia Argento, Ashley Judd, Cara Delevingne, Kate Beckinsale, Rosanna Arquette, Judith Godreche, Angelina Jolie y Rose McGowan. La última ha hecho suya la venganza y se ha encargado de revelar y demostrar que el productor obtuvo la ayuda de muchos poderosos para seguir abusando durante todo ese tiempo.

 

I was called to meet Harvey Weinstein at the Savoy Hotel when I was 17. I assumed it would be in a conference room which was very common.When I arrived ,reception told me to go to his room . He opened the door in his bathrobe . I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older ,unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him .After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left ,uneasy but unscathed.A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting .I realized he couldn't remember if he had assaulted me or not .I had what I thought were boundaries - I said no to him professionally many times over the years-some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a cunt and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people oh "Kate lives to say no to me ." It speaks to the status quo in this business that I was aware that standing up for myself and saying no to things,while it did allow me to feel uncompromised in myself,undoubtedly harmed my career and was never something I felt supported by anyone other than my family.I would like to applaud the women who have come forward , and to pledge that we can from this create a new paradigm where producers,managers,executives and assistants and everyone who has in the past shrugged and said " well, that's just Harvey /Mr X/insert name here " will realize that we in numbers can affect real change.For every moment like this there have been thousands where a vulnerable person has confided outrageous unprofessional behavior and found they have no recourse, due to an atmosphere of fear that it seems almost everyone has been living in .I had a male friend who, based on my experience,warned a young actress who said she was going to dinner with Harvey to be careful. He received a phone call the next day saying he would never work in another Miramax film ;the girl was already sleeping with Harvey and had told him that my friend had warned her off.Let's stop allowing our young women to be sexual cannon fodder,and let's remember that Harvey is an emblem of a system that is sick,and that we have work to do.

Con ayuda de Twitter, McGowan ha pedido a sus compañeras y amigas que se unan a su lucha para evitar que estas cosas sigan sucediendo y pone en manifiesto los nombres que todo el mundo debería saber, para que sientan vergüenza por haber encubierto los acosos sexuales del productor.

Los dardos han llegado hasta los hermanos Ben y Casey Affleck, ambos ganadores del Óscar, y a su buen amigo Matt Damon. Según las declaraciones de McGowan y con fuentes verificables, el grupo de actores habría intervenido en más de una ocasión para lograr sacar sus proyectos adelante, a cambio de encubrir o ignorar los abusos del productor.

Pero la actriz no ha parado, y también anunció que Amazon Studios decidió cancelar una serie escrita por ella cuando ella denunció al productor para evitar que trabajara con la empresa. Amazon se decidió por el productor y las consecuencias son patentes al día de hoy.

“Le dije al jefe de tu estudio que HW me violó”, escribió la actriz en Twitter, en un mensaje dirigido a Jeff Bezos. “Lo dije una y otra vez. Me dijo que no había pruebas, le dije que yo era la prueba”. Finalmente agregó que la empresa ganó un “Óscar sucio por financiar a violadores”. Haciendo una clara referencia a Manchester by the Sea, una cinta producida por Amazon con Matt Damon como productor ejecutivo y protagonizada por Casey Affleck.

“Eh, @mattdamon, ¿cómo te sientes siendo un aprovechado sin escrúpulos que permanece en silencio?”, escribió a Matt Demon, mientras, llamaba a mentiroso a Ben Affleck luego de que este repudiara el comportamiento de Weinstein, cuestión que según McGowan, el actor era más que consciente.

Luego de atacar directamente a nombres tan importantes, la empresa Twitter canceló la cuenta de la actriz, para luego reactivarla 12 horas después, gracias a que miles de mujeres –entre ellas Debra Messing, Anna Paquin o Chrissy Teigen- salieran en defensa de la actriz y decidieran boicotear la red, alegando que no podía parar las denuncias de una mujer solo por señalar a hombres de poder.

Hollywood está ardiendo y las mujeres se encuentran hartas de ser abusadas. Tom Hanks, Ryan Gosling, Jane Fonda, Guillermo del Toro, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Mark Ruffalo, George Clooney, Penélope Cruz, Seth Rogen y más actores condenan el silencio y los actos del productor que brilló durante tanto tiempo.
