The richness and diversity of American society owes much to successive waves of immigration from practically every European country during the past 500 years. This accounts for the extent to which Europeans and Americans share common values and maintain close cultural, economic, social and political ties. Of course, this is reflected in close transatlantic relations. In addition, the USA has been a stalwart supporter of integration between the nations of Europe, which is today embodied in the European Union. The USA has maintained diplomatic relations with the European Union and its forerunners since 1953.
Due to the increasingly close relationship between the two areas, a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is presently being negotiated between the European Union and the United States. It aims to remove trade barriers in a wide range of economic sectors to make it easier to buy and sell goods and services between the EU and the US. The TTIP negotiations could also shape global rules on trade in general.
On the other hand, strengthen the transatlantic axis, including Latin America may be essential to deal with the challenges of the XXI century, due to the similarity of values, interests and goals compared with other geographical areas. The possibilities of considering a triangulation between European Union -United States -Latin America are immense. Therefore, it is no coincidence to choose Miami as the venue for this meeting, the gateway to the United States for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Under these two important premises, the Euroamérica Foundation will organize on 15 and 16 May in Miami (Florida) the II United States-European Union Forum: Looking towards the future. During the two-day event, with a multisectorial format, different topics of interest will be treated such as: Revitalizing the Transatlantic Relationship: Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP); Intellectual property: Driving force for audiovisual and entertainment industry; The role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT´s), Innovation and Internet in developing countries, growth of business and creating new markets and its influence on different production sectors.
All this will be analyzed by the American and European personalities taking part. This forum aims to exchange experiences, as well as promote dialogue and cooperation between both sides of the Atlantic.
